Tea brewed from tea leaves provides health benefits, but don’t discount the healing powers of herbal brews such as chamomile, peppermint or hibiscus tea too. In test-tube experiments,
chamomile tea—which is associated with soothing effects—showed moderate antimicrobial activity. Peppermint tea is a strong antioxidant and has significant antimicrobial and antiviral activities, according to scientists with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
And hibiscus tea (the distinctive ingredient in Lemon Zinger tea) lowered blood pressure in a group of pre-hypertensive adults, according to earlier USDA research.
